From its opening cascades of suitably chunky riffs and vocal offal to the boisterously bouncing drums, each sense can be truly repulsed as the stench (and worse yet, flavour) of rotten viscera fills the air through a sonic spew of sputum. Taking their previously lower tempos into 2022, their is also a gnarly range of drumming that picks up into hammering blasts to ensure the skull is totally obliterated had it somehow survived the relentless headbanging grooves.

Through the album we see the rib-splitting heaviness grow as each of the fantastically ferocious elements of the bands 2 EP’s and split seem to be pushed further into overdrive. The faster parts are even more frantic, the slower parts more drudging and the crawling mids ooze slimy soundscapes that only the most vomitous snarls could penetrate them. Primitive yet full of dynamics (though only the most grotesque ones), this is Death Metal that will have every orifice in ecstatic convulsions as the cadaver mutates to the rhythmic destruction throughout. The alliance of Cryptworm with Me Saco Un Ojo and Pulverised has proven once again to unleash some of the dirtiest Death Metal to exhume England’s mausoleums and pull the rest of the globe in with them.

Me Saco Un Ojo Records proudly presents the third album from UK death metal savages Cryptworm.

Distasteful gurgles erupt amidst those familiarly grotesque grooves and bubonic bouncing riffs. Cryptworm have been a prolific entity with their prior EPs, albums and more seeping into the crypts of the underground at an impressive rate. Now sinking their teeth into you with “Infectious Pathological Waste”, you can hear how their sound has refined to an unstoppable force of blunt force trauma. As the bludgeoning commences you will be pulled in by the disgusting performances of all three members as the convulsing spew of guitars and regurgitating vocals flow like molten rot atop a crushing drum performance. Powerful drum fills and autopsy-invoking riffs are something this band has seemingly mastered creating, because there is no shortage of this magnificent mutilating music flowing forth from the speakers to maim you.

Sometimes a death metal band simply just grasps what sound they are going for and runs the distance with it. Cryptworm are one such band who have always felt very naturally able to concoct the foul distillations of death they bestow upon us. Ranging from those stomping hooks to more thrashy viciousness, this is a wickedly paced record that will have you gorging on its putrescent fruits time and time again. Whether blasting forth total fury or ripping chunks off you with flesh-coated hooks, these barbarians do not falter in their delivery of violence and sadism. The one to last year's celebrated Time to Rot debut album captured its psychedically putrid contents perfectly, and so does the cover to their sophomore full-length, Death Exhibition. Whereas that no-less-weighty debut LP proved FILTH were true contenders to old-school death metal barbarity thawed in the present, Death Exhibition sees the power-trio sounding both more finessed and more barbaric. The formula has hardly changed, thankfully, but the foundations of their sound are expanded further here; whether it's the crude, tank-rolling crush of Grave's first two albums (including the dips into doomier territory on You'll Never See...) or the sooty angularity of Immolation's first two (the birth of the "backwards riff" sequence in DM), FILTH go the distance in punishing the body and tormenting the mind on Death Exhibition.

Most poignant case in point: the dank crypt of instrumental "...Inhumed...," where flanged-out bass begins the plummet to unfathomable depths, establishing both atmosphere and physical presence of a most intimidating nature, and then carried to its conclusion in companion instrumental "...Exhumed...," where the chasm to (and from) that crypt becomes a hypnotically haunting trudge. It should be abundantly obvious that Sněť have been refining their craft to something precise and lethal. Keeping those 90s hallmarks intact but with these little touches that say “we have found our own identity”, there is a gruesomeness and discomfort on this record that will suggest a maturing from the band while their aim to play punishing music is no less in-your-face.

Consuming you with an eldritch atmosphere while piercing through the fog with rancidity, Sněť have a massive production on their new offering that will crush all with total morbidity. Combining the mulch-y tones of death metal’s heyday with an even more classic warmth to their sound is a winning combination. While still feeling as grotesque as ever, there is more to this album than just that. It’s a savage, battering listen that combines excellently placed hooks with the more violent and chaotic moments to concoct something straightforward and yet gripping. There is no pretence to Sněť; they simply play death metal the way they want to hear it, and that really shows on “V bažinách vědomí”. Do not miss this if you love brutality, grooves, death, or riffs - because it has offal-drenched buckets of all of the above.
