The band was formed by \u003cspan class=\"s1\" data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003eRobert Sennebäck, David Blomqvist\u003c\/span\u003e and \u003cspan class=\"s1\" data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003eFred Estby\u003c\/span\u003e in Stockholm, Sweden, in 1988 and has long since been regarded as one of the originators of the trademark Swedish death metal sound, next to other pioneering bands such as \u003cspan class=\"s1\" data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003eENTOMBED,\u003cb data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003e \u003c\/b\u003eGRAVE\u003c\/span\u003e and \u003cspan class=\"s1\" data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003eUNLEASHED. DISMEMBER\u003c\/span\u003e recorded a couple of self-released demos before their 1990 demo cassette, \u003cspan class=\"s1\" data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003eReborn In Blasphemy\u003cb data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003e,\u003c\/b\u003e\u003c\/span\u003e with \u003cspan class=\"s1\" data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003eMatti Kärki\u003c\/span\u003e on vocals and \u003cspan class=\"s1\" data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003eENTOMBED's Nicke Andersson\u003c\/span\u003e taking over most lead guitar parts, got picked up for a wider release by NUCLEAR BLAST RECORDS. In 1991, their first full-length, \u003cspan class=\"s1\" data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003eLike An\u003cb data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003e \u003c\/b\u003eEverflowing Stream\u003c\/span\u003e (Nuclear Blast Records), saw the light of day, which was recorded by \u003cspan class=\"s1\" data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003eTomas Skogsberg\u003c\/span\u003e at the now legendary Sunlight Studios, and featured \u003cspan class=\"s1\" data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003eRichard Cabeza (UNANIMATED)\u003c\/span\u003e on bass. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"p1\" data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003e\u003cspan class=\"s1\" data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003eDISMEMBER\u003c\/span\u003e released their acclaimed sophomore album, \u003cspan class=\"s1\" data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003eIndecent \u0026amp; Obscene\u003cb data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003e,\u003c\/b\u003e\u003c\/span\u003e in 1993, which to this day remains their most successful output.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"p1\" data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003eThree more albums would follow on NUCLEAR BLAST, \u003cspan class=\"s1\" data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003eMassive Kiling Capacity\u003c\/span\u003e (1995), \u003cspan class=\"s1\" data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003eDeath Metal\u003c\/span\u003e (1997) and \u003cspan class=\"s1\" data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003eHate Campaign\u003c\/span\u003e (2000), until the band decided to switch labels. They released two more albums, Where \u003cspan class=\"s1\" data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003eIroncrosses Grow\u003c\/span\u003e (2004, Karmageddon Records) and \u003cspan class=\"s1\" data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003eThe God That Never Was\u003c\/span\u003e (2006, Regain) before \u003cspan class=\"s1\" data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003eFred Estby\u003c\/span\u003e announced his departure for family reasons in 2007. Their last album, \u003cspan class=\"s1\" data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003eDismember\u003cb data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003e,\u003c\/b\u003e\u003c\/span\u003e followed in 2008, adding another highlight to a flawless discography yet the band officially broke up in 2011. After an eight-year hiatus, the band's original line-up reunited for a 30th anniversary gig at Scandinavia Death Fest in October 2019, performing together for the first time in over 20 years.
